If you've ever seen a rack full of eyeglasses in your local store, what you've actually seen are reading glasses. Unlike normal glasses which are expensive and require a prescription, reading glasses can be as cheap as a few dollars and often don't require any prescription at all. Depending on what kind you need, you may be able to walk into your local grocery store and try on a pair of glasses until you find one that works for you. These little racks of glasses have their own special chart. They will instruct you how far to stand from the chart to read it. Based on which lines you can see, you'll know what strength of glasses to get.
But why would a person need reading glasses? The answer is simple, they need them for reading. Unlike everyday glasses which may need to be worn all the time because the person can't see objects far away, someone who needs reading glasses can't see what they're reading, often a book or paper, close up. They have to hold it far away from their eyes to be able to focus on it. This is not only troublesome, but sometimes even holding the book at arm's length doesn't completely bring it into focus. This is where a pair of reading glasses comes in handy.
If you are having trouble reading items close to you, make an appointment with your eye doctor to discuss your options. Buy a pair of reading glasses from your local store if you need them to help you until your appointment. Reading glasses purchased from an eye doctor are typically better than store bought. The prescription is created solely for your eyes and customized to give you perfect sight.
For those who already have glasses because they can't see far away, there's a pair of glasses for you too. Known as bifocals, these lenses are designed to fit your prescription for seeing objects far away when you look through them normally. The bottom part of the lens, which you look through when you look down to read, is a different prescription designed to accommodate for when you need to read. This way you don't have to switch back and forth between two pairs of glasses.
So whether you need bifocals or regular reading glasses, there are a variety of fun options to choose from. From simple designs to designer frames, there's a pair that's sure to make you look great. Your days of squinting will be long gone and you'll even get a nice new fashion accessory along the way.
